Wheels And Tires
by Mell

The wheel choice for my C5 FRC Corvette were the HRE 547s as shown above. These wheels were as expensive as diamonds, but the wheels I liked the best. After pricing around, I found the best deal at Xtreeme Motorsports. These wheels were made with Mallett's offset numbers. Here are the offset numbers:

Rear Wheels
18" X 12" wheels with 68mm (9 1/8 inch backspacing)
Front Wheels
18" X 10" wheels with 50mm offset (7 1/5 inch backspacing).

The tires are Michilen Pilot Sports. To get the rear wheel/tire combination to fit I had to tubb the car. I now have plenty of room to go with a 345 or 355 size tire if I decide to in the future.

An important note. When you go with a wider wheel and extend it to the inside, the inside edge of the wheel comes closer to the upper control arm. The stock shocks let the wheel hang quite a bit so it is possible for the inside of the new rim to come in contact with the upper control arm. Fortunately for me I am using Penske Shocks which only allow the wheel to drop a small amount (the way it should be).

Rear Michelin Pilot Sports are 335 30 18
335 / 25.4 = 13.19
13.19 X .3 = 3.957
(3.957 X 2) + 18 = 25.954 diameter

Front Michelin Pilot Sports are 275 35 18
275 / 25.4 = 10.83
10.83 X .35 = 3.79
(3.79 X 2) + 18 = 25.56 diameter.

Here are the numbers for the Y2K C5 Corvette stock tire configuration.

Rear Stock Tires are 275 40 18
275 / 25.4 = 10.83
10.83 X .4 = 4.33
(4.33 X 2) + 18 = 26.66

Front Stock Tires are 245 45 17
245 / 25.4 = 9.65
9.65 X .45 = 4.34
(4.34 X 2) + 17 = 25.69

Below is a shot of the left rear. When I get the engine back in the car I will put up some good shots of the wheels and tires on the car.
